BIO:
Having entered the world in 2004, the band
soon became renowned for their rumbustious live show. With a line-up
numbering well into double figures and a dubious-at-first infusion of
60s-era rocksteady, indiepop and heartfelt (read: endearingly goofy)
party lyrics. In the years to follow, Still Flyin' managed to win over
even the most skeptical of punters. They have since toured extensively
and played festivals all over the world including SXSW, Laneway, and the
Pavement-curated All Tomorrows Parties UK. The current touring line-up
is a cozy but masterful 6 players, with different spiritual members
joining them in certain cities as the core group travels across the
U.S., Europe, and Australia.
Following their 2010
flurry of vinyl releases with the Ernest Jenning Record Co., the Neu
Ideas CD neatly compiles Still
Flyin's recent forays into krautrock and pulsating dance-pop. Neu
Ideas displays a more refined studio veneer than their debut album Never
Gonna Touch the Ground, but maintains the Still Flyin' "hammjamm"
credo, guaranteeing fans a toothy grin and a shaky rump.
Working again with producer Haima Marriott (Architecture In Helsinki),
and drawing heavily on the dark synth melodies of Kraftwerk and the
repetitive rhythms of the title's namesakes, on Neu
Ideas Still Flyin' lead us through fields of blossoming aural
flora, flush with all kinds of colourful sounds from the synthetic and
acoustic worlds. Lead singer/lyricist Sean Rawls again finds himself
between the eso- and exoteric, veering between the trippy internal
monologue of radio-fave 'Bull Riff' and the heart-on-sleeve "life jams"
of 'Strength' and 'Higher Than Five'.
REVIEWS:
Just as the band gathers
members from all over the world, so too does it draw
influences globally. Afropop guitars twist and coil
throughout... shout-outs to Eddy Grant's "Electric
Avenue" and Lipps Inc.'s "Funky Town" jostle elbows with
nods to Swedish pop and show-tune punk, and it's all
channeled through a North American indie sensibility,
although one self-aware enough to counter knowingness
with an exuberance bordering on silly.

Fun is the new not-fun, and Still Flyin' exemplifies that ethos.
-SF Weekly
The most fun I've had at a
show in quite a while. It's just about the least
pretentious music you could ever imagine...very fun to watch.
-Will Sheff of Okkervil
River in an interview with Pitchfork
Irresistible... a party big
enough on stage that the audience becomes an extesion of
the band.

(Swedish Newspaper)
Still Flyin’ are possibly
the most entertaining, addictive and captivating band I have
seen in years... All I can say is GO AND SEE STILL FLYIN.
You will not regret it.

Faster (Melbourne, Australia)
More surprising than a
bunch of indie-rockers coming together to form a (party)
band is the fact that the product is actually really
good.
